Overview

All the aluminium alloy compositions used for extrusion consist of the highest quality metal available and conform to the International Alloy Designation System.

What is extrusion?

Extrusion basically involves forcing a hot malleable material (like aluminium) through a custom shaped die. From curtain tracks to yacht masts, it’s possible to manufacture many different shapes (profiles) using ingenious designs for a huge variety of purposes.

While most aluminium alloys can be extruded, some are more suited to the process than others. Much depends on the final product characteristics that you, as the customer, are looking for.

Benefits of aluminium

Aluminium is one of the lightest commercially available metals. Key benefits include:

  • Density about one third that of steel or copper
  • Excellent strength to weight ratio
  • Good corrosion resistance, with the option to anodise or powder coat for greater protection
  • Thermal (heat) conductivity
  • Electrical conductivity – high enough to be used as an electrical conductor (like copper)
  • Economical recycling due to low melting temperatures – re-melting uses about 5% of the energy required to smelt new aluminium from its ore. We recycle 100% of our process related aluminium scrap.
