The 37-apartment Station R complex in Fenton Street, next to Mt Eden railway station, has seen a former factory site transformed into a complex of two and three bedroom homes with balconies.

The building captures all-day sun and is within easy reach of Mt Eden Village, Ponsonby Road and Kingsland.

The building is constructed using high quality durable materials. This includes in-situ concrete beams, aluminium joinery and pre-finished decorative precast panels which will age and minimise ongoing maintenance costs. The apartments are fitted with double glazed Pacific Residential system joinery, which adds not only light to the apartments but provides a warmer drier and noise reduced home for the occupants to live in.

Station R occupies a 1184m2 site, orientated north to Fenton Street. The building runs east-west, enabling apartments that run north-south with full dual aspect typologies making the most of sun, shade and passive ventilation.

The northern face of the building responds to the textural and structural qualities of the rail tracks and passing trains, which are a key feature of the site. Shuttered cast concrete – with a rough-sawn timber finish - provides a texture found in the industrial heritage of the site. Oxides added to the concrete provide subtle colour shifts and a durable, enduring texture. The  Black Matt finished aluminium joinery sets off the colour tones even further giving the entire building a rustic look.

Using joinery that complemented the build was essential to maintain the look that the designers required.

Rebated Euroslider™ doors were integrated throughout for both aesthetic appeal and superior weather protection performance.
